Friendly. Professional. Hilarious.
I’m Mary Gallagher
Hello! I'm a professional headlining comedian with over 30 years of experience. I’ve been on The The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, filmed a Dry Bar comedy special and have appeared on tons of iconic hit American TV shows, like Friends (I played “Tilly," Adam Goldberg’s girlfriend.) As the host or headlining comic to your speical event, I create a unique performance that targets your specific audience with my signature wholehearted humor and lively girl-next-door personality. Because I love to collaborate, my passion is fueled by working with others and building up something bigger than myself. I've really taken the time to hone my skills, and I can make your event unforgettable as you shine for booking me.

Zoom Comedy Class for Kids
I am currently offering a one hour stand-up comedy workshop for kids on Zoom! Let me help unleash the comic in your child! (Like this photo but with less mess.)
My workshop is about engaging kids to help them express themselves as I teach them how to write and tell their own jokes. It is all about feeling confident, safe and supported!
I love working with kids because I’m the one learning from them. I love helping foster and guide them through the process of finding their own sense of humor.
In this Zoom, parents or caretakers are welcomed to be with the child but it is not necessary. If you have any concerns about privacy or your child’s face being on screen, I adjust with whatever they are most comfortable with and I’m currently up on current COPPA laws for online teaching. Your child’s privacy, safety, and comfort is my utmost concern.
I group younger kids (7-12) in one Saturday class, and kids 13-16 in the alternate Saturdays. I also offer private one-on-ones. Saturdays 10AM-1PM (PST) Limit is five kids per class and cost $40. Please contact me to sign up!

Zoom Comedy Class for Adults
I teach basic joke structure, with fun writing exercises done in class, basic techniques such as holding the mic, making sure you’re being seen and heard, speaking confidentially in your own voice, how to create opening and closing jokes, open mic and comedy club sign-up and performance etiquette and build out your first 3 minute set. I also show a lot of clips of great comics to inspire. This workshop is super supportive and super fun!
The ability to craft good jokes in your voice is a great skill that will serve you well. That's certainly been my experience. You don’t even need to go to a comedy club or an open mic to perform. I have found that learning stand-up comedy offers great personal insights and is a wonderful deep dive for seeing your worthiness. Some people like to just explore it, some start in on open mics at comedy clubs (or coffee houses), and some even do their new routine at a party in front of friends and/or family. What a great gift this would be for you and for them! 🎉
My Adult Zoom workshop is every Sunday from 10AM-1PM (PST) Five people per class. Cost: $65 (Zelle, Venmo, Check.) Please contact me to sign up for an upcoming Sunday!

Live In Person Workshop for Groups
I’d love to bring my in person Stand-Up Comedy Workshop to your acting studio or corporate office. My group workshop is ideal for a larger group of people to explore stand-up comedy as a tool for corporate team building or personal well-being.
I’ve led this workshop at The Screen Actor’s Guild Conservatory, Joe Anthony Acting Studio in Los Angeles, and at The University of Wisconsin, Green Bay.
I am also available to come to your home or office party to lead a stand-up comedy event to engage and foster friendships. I would love to have you and your friends star in your own living room production surrounded by friends and family! Who needs Netflix when I have a traveling sound system in the back of my car?
I recently worked with a parent and child to learn stand-up comedy and it led them to now writing their own screenplay on their family story. In teaching stand-up, I find it is is quite the bonding experience and offers a strong sense of community with others.
Contact me today to discuss all your stand-up comedy needs and desires.
About Me
I’ve been in Los Angeles for over thirty years working as a professional stand-up comic and TV and film actor. I’ve had the extreme pleasure of working on hit TV shows such as Friends, How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy, The West Wing, and Prank Encounters on Netflix. I’ve cohosted and hosted national TV shows like World Cup Comedy, The Short Show on E! and Faux Pause on Game Show Network. In 2018, my childhood dream of walking onto the Ed Sullivan Theater stage came true (big Beatles fan here) with my national television stand-up comedy debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. This iconic event really catapulted me into more stand-up comedy, coaching, and travel. And… Best part was I got to take my daughter along who’s also a Beatles fan!
After I studied theatre at The University of Wisconsin - Green Bay, I graduated from the training program at the renowned Second City in Chicago. In Chicago I began traveling with corporate improv comedy through a company called Wavelength, supporting school teachers, people near and dear to my heart. In Chicago I was also hired by Citibank to show potential customers a new rewards program. That corporate gig ended up paying off my entire college loan all while I learned improv from the finest improv teachers in the country (as I studied at Second City, Stephen Colbert was performing there nightly, and little did I know an appearance on his future talk show would be monumental for me years later.)
My improv and sketch comedy background has also helped me to perform sketches on other talk shows such as Ellen and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. As a stand-up comic and professional host, I host monthly for Mr. Leno at Flappers Comedy Club in Burbank, California and at Comedy and Magic Club in Hermosa Beach.
Besides my many starring television credits, I’ve been in over 50 national commercials and several major motion pictures such as Flightplan with Jodie Foster, How Do You Know with Reese Witherspoon and Jack Nicholson, and most recently, In Spite of Ourselves, a new romantic comedy starring Brett Dier, Leslie Connor and Glenn Moreshower. I play Trish in the film, a comedy club manager. I was also hired by the producers to coach several of the actors in the film portraying a stand-up comic. It was an incredible experience as their is nothing I like more than mixing acting, stand-up comedy and coaching!
My beginnings in comedy started as I worked my way though college, responding to a “Help Wanted” ad for singing telegrams. My first one was for The Green Bay Packers! They requested I come dressed as a clown (and why wouldn’t they?) Since I had no idea how to sing, I put on my best rainbow wig and began crafting killer jokes just for The Packers and their families. A career was born and one clown made an iconic institution’s day.
I now host, perform and teach at colleges, corporate events, churches, non-profits, and comedy clubs all across America. In 2022, I flew to the South of France to host a private event for Kevin Hart (um, amazing) and I just completed a trip of a life time in England and Ireland where I got to perform my stand-up comedy and improv with my new friends in Dublin. What a incredible comedy community I found there.
I’m now touring and performing for the United States Marine Corps troupes with my stand-up comedy and helping to spread mental health awareness through a program called “1 Degree of Separation,” for suicide prevention. This is currently the greatest service I think I have ever been in my career, but I also know there could now be so much more to come with being of service with what is near and dear to my heart: Laughter and Good Mental Well Being for All. My exploration of my own well being has put me on a specific path of helping foster it in others where and whenever I can.
“Mary has that rare combo of a great mind, quick wit and big heart. A joy to work with and work that is pure joy. I couldn’t love her more without threatening my marital vows.” —Jason Alexander
