Clarity Creates Openings

Me teaching in North Hollywood on Sundays

The fastest way to change your life is to stop hinting at your gifts and start naming them.

We often tell people going through grief or big life changes, “Let me know if you need anything.” But that offer is so broad it’s almost impossible to accept. My friend Michelle taught me to offer specific help instead:

“Can I bring you a meal on Thursday?”

“I can babysit Sunday.”

“I know a great lawyer if you need one.”

Specificity makes support receivable.

So I tried applying that same clarity to my career.

I attended a table read for a romantic comedy that may be heading into production soon. After the read, everyone shared feedback. I offered a suggestion — and then, in a bold moment of clarity — I offered to write it.

They hired me over the weekend.

This week reminded me that being clear about what I can do — and how I can help — isn’t pushy. It’s generous. It’s brave. And it opens doors that vague hope never will.
